Homeroom Faculty

Kindergarten

Mrs. Kimberly SchmidtMiss Autumn Champion is in her third year as a teacher at Cornerstone. She was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Orange County, California. She attended the University of Arizona and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 2007. She also played softball at the University for four years, as well as in the professional league for two years. Miss Champion enjoys spending time with her family, friends and dog, scrapbooking, hiking, cycling, and pretty much any kind of outdoor activity. She loves to watch children grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Mrs. Kimberly Schmidt is in her sixth year of teaching kindergarten at Cornerstone Christian Academy. She began her teaching career in Indiana where she taught third grade. After her husband was transferred to Arizona twelve years ago, she stayed home to raise her three children. Logan is now in high school at PRCA, Austin is in middle school and Karli attends Cornerstone. Besides her love for teaching, she enjoys camping, hiking, scrap booking, reading, and their golden retriever Sydney. Cornerstone has been a huge blessing to her and her family. The Schmidt family attends Dove Mountain Church, PCA.

1st Grade

Mrs. Colleen Sexton is a long-time Tucsonan and graduate of Prescott College.  Like many teaching moms, she took some years off for taking care of her children, but returned to teaching full time in 2008.  She spent several years as a Substitute Teacher and most recently was a long-term Substitute Teacher at Wilson K-8 in the Amphi School District.  Mrs. Sexton has a daughter at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and a son attending Cornerstone.  The Sexton family attends Faith Community Church.

 

Mrs. Barbara Seligman is in her fourth year teaching first grade at Cornerstone Christian Academy.  In 1974, she graduated with a degree in Environmental Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  She received her Masters degree in Elementary Education at Northern Arizona University.  She has two children and one grandson.  Her son is married and is currently serving in the military in Saudi Arabia.  Her daughter recently graduated from high school and will attend college in the fall.  While living in California, she enjoyed her position as the coordinator and teacher of children’s ministry for Community Bible Study for six years. Barbara and her husband, Larry, are members of Catalina Foothills Church, PCA.

2nd Grade

Mrs. Sue Brobeck is in her eighth year teaching second grade at Cornerstone Christian Academy. In 1981, she graduated with a degree in early childhood education from Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania. In 1988, her husband John became a professor at the University of Arizona’s Department of Music, and Mrs. Brobeck spent the next eight years at home with her children. From 1996 until 2002, she taught at Lamb’s Gate Preschool and Kindergarten while earning her K-8 Arizona teaching certification. In addition to her teaching position at CCA, Mrs. Brobeck is the Nursery Coordinator at Northminster Presbyterian Church, where her husband is organist and Assistant Director of Music. Dr. and Mrs. Brobeck have a son and two daughters.

Mrs. Evelyn Bylenga is in her second year teaching second grade at Cornerstone.  She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights IL, with a BA in Elementary Education and Art.  She and her husband, Tony, have lived and worked in Christian schools in Ontario, Canada, Illinois and California for the past 28 years.  Tony is currently the principal at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.  Their oldest son, Peter, lives in Washington with his wife, Mark attends Dordt College in Iowa, and Katie is a senior at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.  Mrs. Bylenga’s hobbies include camping and hiking as well as reading, gardening, drawing and painting. 

3rd Grade

Ms. Ginger Sewell began her education at the University of Alaska, moved on to Trinity University, and then graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in English.  She received her Elementary Teaching Certificate at the University of Arizona. In the 70’s, Ms. Sewell taught kindergarten in the Amphi School District for 2 yrs, then moved to Texas and taught for three more years.  The next seventeen years were spent raising her children.  She returned to teaching in ’93 at Casa Christian School where she taught third grade for ten years.  She retired five years ago and during that time pursued a variety of art work including mosaics, kiln fused glass and silk quilts. Being an extrovert, Ms. Sewell found she needed to be back in the classroom again.  She is thrilled to be teaching third grade at Cornerstone!  Ms. Sewell has two grown children.  Her son is a doctor doing his fellowship in gastroenterology at UCSF Medical Center.  Her daughter lives in Tucson and works in Insurance.  Ms Sewell also has three precious grandchildren.  Elvis and Bear, her two dogs, complete her family.  Ms. Sewell attends Casas Church.

Mrs. Tiffany Leon is a fourth year teacher at Cornerstone Christian Academy.  She was born in Torrance, California, but has lived in Tucson since she was four.  Tiffany has been married to her husband Ryan for 3 years and they have a wonderful son, Gideon.  Tiffany and her husband attend Calvary Chapel of Tucson.  After graduating from Flowing Wells High School, she attended the University of Arizona.  She did her method courses at Harelson elementary and student taught in a fifth grade class at Centennial Elementary.   Aside from chasing a toddler, she also enjoys hiking, traveling, a good game of volleyball, and eating sushi.  Having attended only public schools, Tiffany feels extremely blessed to be able to teach in an environment where she is able to speak God’s Word.

4th Grade

Mrs. Sylvia Proulx is our newest fourth grade teacher. Her first year at Cornerstone Christian Academy, she served as one of our first grade teachers.  She came to us with eleven years of teaching experience in other Christian schools.  She was born and raised in Tucson, but had lived in Sierra Vista, Arizona, for twenty-three years.  Both Mrs. Proulx’s Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and recently completed Master’s degree in Teaching and Teacher Education, are from the U of A.  She and her husband have raised five children and have done extensive foster care for children from the White Mountain Apache Tribe. Sylvia loves to mountain bike, rock climb, cook and play the guitar. Sylvia’s husband Ed is the Senior Chaplin and Assistant Program Director at the Gospel Rescue Mission.  They attend Victory Assembly of God.

Mrs. Susan Walker is teaching fourth grade at Cornerstone Christian Academy for the eighth year. She is from Illinois originally, but has lived in Tucson for the past thirty-six years. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a dual degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. Mrs. Walker stayed home to raise her children and then returned to education. She has taught for over twelve years. Mrs. Walker and her husband have two grown sons. Jordan is a firefighter and a paramedic, and Grant is a student at Arizona State University. She is a member of Catalina Foothills Church, PCA.

5th Grade

Mrs. Stacy Bade grew up in central Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign in 1984 with a bachelor degree in advertising.  She spent ten years working as a copywriter before she returned to Eastern Illinois University to obtain her elementary teaching certificate in 1987.  She taught for seven years at Judah Christian School in Champaign, Illinois, one year at Scottsdale Christian Academy, and is in her fifth year at Cornerstone Christian Academy.  Mrs. Bade enjoys reading historical nonfiction, attending the theater and her husband’s recitals, cheering on her favorite college sports team, hiking, cooking, and being active in her church, Living Hope Family Church.

Mrs.Sarah Moulson is currently in her ninth year of teaching at Cornerstone Christian Academy.  She was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. She earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English and Language Arts. Having been blessed by her own upbringing in Christian schools, she considers it a privilege to be now serving God as a Christian educator herself. Mrs. Moulson enjoys spending time with her husband, Steve, traveling, reading, and being active in their church, Desert Springs Presbyterian.

6th Grade

Mr. Jack Hauschildt is a native Tucsonan who returned to the desert in 2000 after teaching in several places around the world. He started teaching in 1975 at Immanuel Lutheran in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After teaching there for eight years, he and his family moved to southern Arizona and Mr. Hauschildt taught in Sierra Vista and Bisbee for six years. In 1988, the Hauschildts moved to Papua New Guinea to teach missionary children for eleven years. Returning to the U.S.A., Mr. Hauschildt taught on the Navajo Reservation briefly before joining the CCA staff in 2000. In the summers of 2004-2006 and 2008-2009, Mr. Hauschildt taught English to teachers in China with the English Language Institute in China. Jack and his wife Jill have two grown children and are members of Dove Mountain Church, PCA.
