Shamrock Farms A class trip to a dairy farm. The students tour the facility to gain an understanding and appreciation of the people and processes God uses to provide us with milk!
Tucson Symphony Orchestra KinderKonzert: Having heard ensemble groups from the symphony throughout the school year, the children have an opportunity to see the orchestra play together in a fun setting. |
First Grade |
Buckelew Farm Pumpkin Patch: Children are able to observe the pumpkin in all stages of growth and choose a pumpkin of their own to take home.
Barnes and Noble Bookstore Tour: Children learn about the life of a book as they tour the processing area and book sections of the store. Children are encouraged to become authors themselves and hear a story read aloud to them.
Tucson Symphony Orchestra: The Tucson Symphony Orchestra visits Cornerstone throughout the school year teaching about the musical instruments that make up the orchestra. As a culminating activity, kindergarten through second grades attend the KinderKonzert.
Botanical Gardens & Butterfly Garden: After studying plants and their life cycles, the children explore a variety of local and foreign plants. They are exposed to the beauty & diversity of God’s creation. A special bonus is the butterfly garden which ties in with our spring unit on moths and butterflies. |
Second Grade |
The International Wildlife Museum: A culminating event for the study of animals, we take a guided tour of this museum that is full of real animals that have died, most of them of old age in zoos. The docent answers questions and relates information in each of the six rooms and then the children are free to explore each room before we move as a group to the next area. The museum includes both hands-on and observation of hundreds of animals and birds.
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum: A culminating event for the habitats science unit. The class travels to the famed museum for a day of discovery and appreciation of our native wildlife, plant life, and the Sonoran Desert.
Sabino Canyon: A class trip to this riparian place of wonder and astonishment, looking at the geology, the varied flora and fauna, and the Native American history of the area with a trained docent.

Third Grade |
Arizona Historical Society: As a conclusion to the study of Arizona history, third graders take a tour of the Historical Society. The children have the opportunity to learn from informative docents, see pictures and artifacts from our past, and participate in hands-on activities that bring the cultures of Arizona to life!
Reid Park Zoo: The zoo is like having the world in your own backyard! During our trip the children get a “behind-the-scenes” look at how zookeepers care for a variety of animals from around the globe, and examine how God equipped each animal to live where He placed them.
Tucson Symphony Orchestra: Tucson Symphony Orchestra ensemble groups visit Cornerstone on four separate occasions throughout the school year teaching about the instruments that make up the orchestra. As a culminating activity, third though fifth grades attend the Young People's Concert at the Tucson Convention Center.
Missionary Wax Museum: In order to learn about and pay tribute to those great heroes of the faith who have boldly spread God’s Word around the world, we have a Missionary Wax Museum each year. Each child reads about a famous missionary, dresses up like him/her, and then presents the person’s life story to the class. The children also pose like wax sculptures of their missionaries so the rest of the school can tour our “museum” and learn about these faithful believers.
Third Grade World Fair: To wrap up our year long trip around the world, each child has the opportunity to choose his/her favorite country and present information about it to the class. After the presentations, there is a celebration with an international feast! The day is full of facts, food, and fun! |
Fourth Grade |
Flandrau Planetarium: An exciting solar system experience. Students attend mini workshops, exploring the magnificent history of life on Earth, and travel through space observing the Lord’s creation through His solar system!

Greek Festival: Opa! This serves as the culminating activity for the Greek studies unit. Students don togas and educate their palates sampling feta, olives, pitas, and other Greek foods.
University of Arizona architecture tour: As students walk the campus of the university they observe and examine examples of classic Greek architecture. |
Fifth Grade |
Renaissance Festival: This trip enhances the fifth grade study of the Middle Ages. Students learn what life at a typical marketplace and jousting tournament would have been like from that time period.
Starbase: A federally funded program in which students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on math, science, and technology activities.

Medieval Feast: Students and parents are invited to participate in a medieval style feast at school as a culmination of our unit studies.
DeGrazia Art Gallery: Students appreciate the art and architecture of an historic Southwest landmark.
ASARCO Mine Tour: Students investigate the history and operations of an open pit mine. |
Sixth Grade |
Sabino Canyon: Students participate in the “Creek Critters” program which studies water quality and analyzes data collected.
Marine Discovery at the University of Arizona: Students learn about the marine environment, especially the Gulf of California.
Federal Court House: Students visit a judge’s courtroom and witness people becoming citizens of the United States.
Catalina Island: A fun and educational trip to California’s Catalina Island where the students explore marine life and strengthen their friendships. |
